Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman) has spent her life in pursuit of superficial perfection, but a loveless and childless marriage has left her bereft of anything meaningful beyond her stable of horses. Convinced that her husband is cheating on her, the headstrong Sarah journeys from London to the remote tropical outpost of Darwin, Australia, to confront him.

Her reluctant guide through the vast, unforgiving terrain of the Northern Territory is the Drover (Hugh Jackman), a rough-hewn cattleman as rugged as Sarah is refined. Their profound mutual dislike is tempered by tragedy when Sarah suddenly finds herself caring for an enchanting young orphan called Nullah (Brandon Walters), a half-Aboriginal, half-Caucasian boy adrift in a segregated society that treats him as an outcast.

Meanwhile, Faraway Downs is on the edge of ruin, and scheming station manager Neil Fletcher (David Wenham) is plotting with cattle baron King Carney (Bryan Brown) to hasten its demise and take over the property themselves.

To save Faraway Downs, Sarah must join forces with the Drover and drive 1,500 head of cattle across Australia’s breathtaking yet brutal landscape. Along with Nullah, they are joined on their quest by a mistfit band of ranch hands and homesteaders, including alcoholic accountant Kipling Flynn (Jack Thompson), the Drover’s trusted Aboriginal stockmen Magarri (David Ngoombujarra) and Goolaj (Angus Pilakui), and a mysterious tribal magic man known as King George (David Gulpilil).

Transformed by the power and beauty of the land and her bond with Nullah, Sarah becomes the woman she truly wants to be, and her contentious relationship with the Drover gives way to grudging respect, admiration and finally, love.

But when the sinister machinations of war reach the shores of Australia, Sarah and her unlikely new family are torn apart. For the first time in her life, Sarah has something to fight for – and it will take passion, courage and determination as great as the mysteries of the ancient continent to protect the people she loves.

The first seminar by RMIT Movie Club about Hong Kong acclaimed director Wong Kar-wai yesterday was a success. Thanks everyone who had come to the seminar, especially people who stayed until almost 7:00 p.m, when the credits of In the Mood for Love rolled.

Dear all,

First of all, we would like to thank everyone who had joined our first meeting today. Lots of ideas have been thrown out and we had made quite a lot of discussion, mostly about further activities of Movie Club in this current semester, to be precise, in these following weeks. We greatly appreciate everyone’s comments today and hope the club can implement those ideas and plans into real activities soon.

Secondly, we’d like to inform you activities that we are going to have in following weeks of this semester. Please note that all of these activities are opened for both members and non-members of the club, both students and staffs of RMIT Hanoi.

1 - Organizing monthly quiz with attractive gifts from MegaStar Media. The first quiz will be announced at the beginning of week 5, meaning next week, through WebEMS system of RMIT. It will be about High School Musical 3: Senior Year and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. Be prepared!

2 - Organizing a seminar about independent movies (or director Wong Kar-Wai <Chungking Express, In the Mood for Love, My Blueberry Nights…>) with guest speaker Mr. Hoang Trang Hai. This event will be held on December 14th at Hanoi Cinematheque, meaning at the end of week 8.

3 - In consideration: Organizing movie shows at MegaStar Cineplex. At the moment, we are planning to organize Saturday Movie Nights at MegaStar Cineplex on November 29th with Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and December 13th with Twilight, meaning at the end of week 6 and week 7. Normally, you will have to pay 80,000 VND per ticket at MegaStar at weekends. But with RMIT Movie Club, you only have to pay 60,000 VND per ticket!

However, the reason why this event is still in consideration is if we want to have discount prize for these shows, we need 100 people registering in total for these 2 shows (meaning 50 each). Registration will be started from November 14th and until November 25th. Official announcement about this activity will reach you soon through blog, website of RMIT Movie Club and WebEMS system of RMIT. So take a deep breath and wait for us!

4 - Lastly, we will have a logo contest for RMIT Movie Club. This activity is a cooperation between Music Club and Movie Club. You will find the announcement about this contest from Music Club soon, at the beginning of next week. Just wait for them!!!
